well, the first question we may ask is what is fitness and why do we , youngsters need to keep fit. As you all know , we as mauritians, we produce one of the finest and sweetest sugar. But another thing which we must also keep into consideration is that we, ourselves are one of the greatest consumer of sugar. so many people have diabetes in our country. Recently our nice Prime minister has said that he would give free glucometers to every children suffering from diabetes . should we rejoice of having such a health facility or should we regret that we make too much use of these services (means that we are more and more in bad health).another measure taken is to prevent all drinks except water in school and college canteens and cafe.
well, i think that these measure would not rectify the situation. The problem is with our culture. since childhood we have told to drink tea or coffee in the morning with lots of sugar in it . Parents allow their child 3-10 to have soft drink as if they are drinking water. There is simply no control on the food either; children eat lots of chocolate and fast food and all these stuffs. I mean, its good to give them all facilities since they are children but we should also not forget the effect this is going to have on their health.
so i propose that one, yes ONE of the solution is physical activities , be it yoga, aerobic, gym or simply walk.
children should be taught this culture. they should be encouraged to walk, to jog , to swim and to run. to do everything rather than sitting idle in front of a stupid television.
Youngsters (16-30)should go to gym. nowadays with as little as 100 rs monthly anyone can join a gym and train. Joining a gym does not mean lifting heavy weights or whateva, but one can simply run on a thread mill or lift very light weights and burn the excess calories.
